A 32-year-old fugitive, wanted in Mexico for sex crimes against a child, was deported from Miami to Mexico City on Wednesday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Cecilio Cerro-Canjay had been on the run since October 2010 when Mexican authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, records show.
On Oct. 2, he was tracked down in Dover, east of Tampa, and by Oct. 15 an immigration judge in Miami ordered him deported, agents said.
Mexican officials believed Cerro-Canjay was in the U.S. and requested help from ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations in Miami to apprehend him.
Agents escorted him on a flight out of Miami International Airport and handed him over to the Procuraduria General De La Republica in Mexico City, Wednesday morning, officials said.
